SEEFOOD ROOM is pleased to present MC Yan's solo exhibition from 6 June to 26 June 2022.

Led by the legendary hip-hop and graffiti artist Syan ‘MC Yan’, Kowloon Kickass is an exhibition curated by Professor Kevin Tsui to shine light on the Kowloon Emperor, Tsang Tsou-choi. The late Kowloon Emperor was known for his iconic calligraphy seen all over the streets of Kowloon - the graffiti represented his rebellious spirit and they perpetually remained the emblem of the city’s local visual culture through derivative art.

By showcasing Syan’s reworks of the Kowloon Emperor’s calligraphy, this exhibition is an artistic response to the pervasive culture of ‘piggybacking’. Kowloon Kickass is a sequel to the 7,482,000 free NFT collectibles featuring Tsang’s HKID card from the Being Kowloon Emperor series that Syan and Prof Tsui launched earlier on April Fool’s Day 2022. Syan also performed live graffiti at SEEFOOD ROOM on 6 June to elucidate his interpretation of the spirit of Kowloon Kickass.
