Elspeth Vince

Elspeth Vince (b. 1993, United Kingdom) is a British artist with roots in printmaking and installation. Since a young age she has had an interest in exploring our inner realms to traverse the human experience. As a woman utilising self portraiture, she consciously enters the dialogue of historical authorship of female unclothed bodies. Her work re-asserts authorship to reshape historical male representations, presenting multidimensional beings - a landscape, a monster, a sea nymph, a woman. She is interested in the historical lens of the female artist and how tenderness and sexuality can be communicated without it being labelled as a single thing. She integrates this context with a performance element by aligning feelings that arise within her when physically engaging with the depicted postures to align with the tension in the image. Upon graduation at the Turps Banana course and featured artworks at Gucci, she recently completed a residency programme in 2023 with Cuturi Gallery, Singapore, that allowed her to investigate our intrinsic connection to the spiritual and address the stigma of spiritualism on the female-artist.
