Ben Liu (b. 1996, Hong Kong) graduated from the Hong Kong Arts School in 2019 and taught painting classes before he embarked on his journey to become an artist. His works focus on the topic of self-exploration. He was often fascinated by how humans are trained to see our own image through other people’s judgments, and whether it is possible to find our own identity without the over-reliance on others, thereby deepening the discussion of the existence of free will.

Liu is heavily inspired by Japanese manga and comic culture that he grew up with, which is reflected in the illustrative art style and comic-style narration that are seen in his works. He is also greatly inspired by Polish artist, Zdzisław Beksiński and Japanese artist, Tetsuya Ishida as he realises how creative structures can be used for emotional expression and story-telling.
