Yoon Hyung-Taek Residency Exhibition: Yoon Hyung-Taek solo residency exhibition

21 March - 13 April 2024
SEEFOOD ROOM Gallery is pleased to present our first residency programme featuring Yoon Hyung-Taek at G/F, 1 Prince’s Terrace, Mid-Levels from 21 March to 13 April 2024.

Fondness is a recurring theme throughout Yoon’s creations. To him, it is a collection of profound emotions accumulated with each passing moment, which compelled him to create this new series centred around the essential elements that enable the manifestation of fondness.

The essential elements, including the banal backdrop that is our daily lives, our interpretation of it, and our innate memory functions that dissect and digest the interpretations, operate in a circular system. As the foundation of the trio, our memory function evolves gradually according to our experiences to establish a circular structure that resembles a spiral.

Yoon believes that it is imperative to examine this structure that spirals within him - when he completes such internal processes, he is able to internalise his emotions and resign oneself into the dynamic world to thrive. When painting, Yoon assesses each art piece with the same approach, infusing every one of them with profound emotions and learning to love them despite their perks and flaws.

Continuing his story from his previous Fondness series, this exhibition acts as an experiment for Yoon as he exposes himself to fluctuating external stimuli and investigates the associated turbulence within him. Through his creative process, the artist discerns the difference in how he has expressed, resisted, then accepted his emotions to re-establish a sense of fondness under new environments. The instability present within fondness briefly takes centre stage in the limelight. Through this evolved series, Yoon hopes for the audience to take a chance and embrace the undercurrents that come with a profound sense of warmth.
